Hey everyone! Here are my 5 questions from the Morrison document...

1. How is the tone in the first paragraph different from Smileys?

2. Do you agree with her opinion on the N-word? That even though you have read it many times throughout the book and feel like you shouldn't be affected by it, you still have the emotion that comes with reading/saying the word?

3. Do you agree with her ideas on death, and how Hunk "yearns for [it]"?

4. Morrison argues that when Huck chose to end conforsations abruptly, ( like when he said "I just quit" after the french confo) he gathered all of his feelings held in to do the "ultimate act of love." Which was when Huck tore up the letter and sacrificed his life and reputation in order to save Jim.
Do you agree? Why?

5. Morrison says that Huck wanted a father figure, but one he could control. Do you agree that Jim fits this position? Why?

1. Does she make her point clear in the first paragraph? Why or why not?
2. Do you agree with the fact that the characters have changed but society makes it so they can’t truly show that?
3. Do you agree with the fact that  this novel has effected people in this major way?
4. How is this person's view different from Smiley's?
5. What would be a specific, concrete example of the theory she is saying about Jim?

So after reading the "Say it Ain't So" thing, I was just very upset ad needed to take a break from Huck Finn. And this is why:
I just did not like Smiley's point of view on it. She think's everyone is racist besides Harriet Beecher Stowe because she wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin. I don't think she is very creditable because I'm pretty sure UTC was an exaggerated story that Stowe wrote and she never even visited the south. Twain did research by living in the north and the south and having friends and family with both opinions. I have other thoughts as well but thought I'd start with this and see what you guys think.

I didn't like the ending of the book!! I mean i'm happy about Huck dad's being dead because of the way he was treating huck but in away i'm sad Mrs. Watson died.. And i don't like how Huck just leaves.. What does everyone think of the ending? and the book in general ?

Well, the book is finally over and Im really surprised at a lot of things. The thing that surprised me the most is the fact that Tom knew the ENTIRE TIME that Jim was basically free, and nearly got the three of them killed (litteraly) just so Huck and Jim could play along in his game. I Thought that the whole, trying to break Jim out even though they could just open the door and walk out was too much, but this is just way to over the top knowing that Jim was basically free the entire time. Another thing that confuses me is that if Miss Watson was dead, Jim was technically free during the majority of their adventure. So Huck had been tricking him, making fun of him on the inside, been under the "threat" of Jim being captured from everyone, even though he was free.

I Just wana know your guys' feelings on how your thinking on the book and your thoughts on Huck were changed knowing Jim was free almost the whole time.

Also, do you think Jim somehow knew that Miss Watson was dead, and thats why he decided to play along with Toms elaborate plan?

Hi everyone, so I don't think any of us has posted in a while, and i don't know if we were told to or not...but I'm just going to anyways. Huck is probably the coolest kid ever, he goes is smart and not afraid of adventures. He is quick thinking for every situation he is in. (in the family he gets adopted into, and when meeting the two guys). The question I have for you guys is do you think he is so quick thinking from him deciding he is going to do whatever is easiest at the time, or do you think he has a different plan or motive?
